Sönmez, who looks for new forms of expression and produces interdisciplinary works of art, conducts theoretical and practical studies on the abstract thinking skills and uses different techniques such as painting and collage.
She focuses on the concept of space and the deep-rooted mental processes that enable the perception of space. Instead of depicting nature as it is, Sönmez is interested in unveiling a language created only with shapes and colors in an abstract field. She focuses on new horizons that an abstract language will open in a non-objective area and draws attention to the processes of sensing 2 and 3-dimensional surfaces.
The artist, who aims to show the stages of the transition from 2 to 3 dimensions in perception, allows the viewer to construct his/her own abstract space with artworks that do not directly reference any object or space we see in daily life.
